Nissan Bar-Dayan: Eretz, Sun and Sky

It is as if Nissan Bar-Dayan repeats the same subject, the Israeli landscape repeatedly. However, no two paintings are identical. Bar-Dayan discovers the inner spirit of the Land and is never satisfied. Like the well-known Israeli artist Eli Shamir, wherever he may be, even in the US, he continually paints the Jezreel Vallery.
The exhibition title highlights three main aspects of the local scenery: land, sun and sky, the land of Eretz-Israel; the sky – where the drama occurs, corresponding to the drama on land, its protagonists are the clouds; and the sun, which shines almost every day throughout the year, and greatly influences the landscape with a wide range of colors, and of shapes. Wherever the sun shines, there is a shadow. The sun creates a world of shadows, whose forms are reliant on it, and it lights up whatever it illuminates. Bar-Dayan takes great interest in the play of light and shadow.
