Meir Elipur & Judith Harpaz: Highway 1 – “Between Kodosh ve’Hol

The photographers Meir Elipur (b. 1970, Jerusalem) and Judith Harpaz (b. 1958, Haifa) created the exhibition Highway 1 – "Between Kodosh ve’Hol" together.
Highway 1, the main highway connecting Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, serves here not only as a physical road but also as a symbolic axis: between the Kodesh (trans. Sacred or Holy) and the Hol (trans. Profane or Sand), between the spiritual Jerusalem and the worldly Tel Aviv. This exhibition seeks to blur the boundaries between these two realms and highlight what they share — the moments "along the way", embedded in real life.
Elipur and Harpaz, two photographers of social issues, offer a personal view of both spaces – distinct yet intertwined. Through their lenses, they capture the everyday, the fleeting, the surprising, and the eternal. Urban landscapes, human faces, moments of grace and routine – all come together to form a rich and complex Israeli mosaic.
The people photographed were often encountered during long walks through the cities. In many cases, the captured moment came only after a small exchange – a conversation, a smile, or a quiet connection. In today’s reality, this exhibition resonates as a message of empathy, connection, and shared humanity – rising above all boundaries.
