Elchanan Ben Abraham: Capturing Jerusalem

Elhanan ben-Avraham (b. 1945, New York; immigrated to Israel in 1979) is a published writer and poet, and a professional artist He has produced a number of large biblical murals in public buildings in Jerusalem. His artwork appears in The Jerusalem Illustrated Bible (Jerusalem: The Bible Society, 2019).
"Not with weapons of war, but with brush and pen I set out to capture the timeless Holy city, seated without and within its stone walls, drawing portraits directly from its scarred face. Face-to-face, the pen and brush capture her, heartbeat to heartbeat.
My entire life's philosophy is 'Face-to-Face'. That is true with people, the creation, and the Creator. But the English speaks of an external face, like the face of a building, whereas the Hebrew speaks of the interior, of 'deep calling unto deep'. My art attempts to reveal both that which is seen and that which is not, and make it visible, with nothing between myself and the art. It is without trickery of technique, but honest observationof that which is seen, and unseen, rendered carefully with authenticity and delivered directly through the brush and pen."
