Tommer Halperin and 'Hora Jerusalem': Through a Dancer’s Eyes

Tommer Halperin (1990, Jerusalem) is a photographer, teacher of Hebrew grammar, and tailor; a former dancer with 'Hora Jerusalem', and currently the house photographer and costume designer of the dance group. He is also a lecturer in the Department of Fashion Design and Jewelry at the 'Bezalel' Academy of Arts and Design. From the perspective of a dancer, photography became a natural extension of presence and movement; an intuitive, almost meditative process in which he allows moments to unfold without knowing what will happen. The photographs were woven from the quiet moments between rehearsal and performance, between one dancer’s glance and another’s, and between generations who continue to dance the same steps, year after year. Over a decade of documentation has formed a living, breathing archive — a visual story of evolving tradition, of bodies in motion, and of hearts beating as one.
'Hora Jerusalem' is the representative dance ensemble of the City of Jerusalem, founded in 1961.
The company serves as a cultural ambassador of the city and of Israel, and has received numerous awards and international recognition. In its performances, Hora Jerusalem blends folk and traditional dance with contemporary creation, preserving a living and vibrant Israeli cultural identity.
