Theatre Mornings – Quality Films with Fascinating Introductory Lectures and light refreshments
New Zealand, 2024
Directed by Miki Magasiva
Starring: Anapela Polataivao and Antonia Eaton
124 minutes | English & Samoan with Hebrew subtitles
After losing her daughter in the Christchurch earthquake, a music teacher of Samoan descent struggles to find meaning in life. When she takes up a teaching position at a prestigious school, she encounters a group of students who, like her, are searching for a sense of belonging. Convinced of music's power to bring people together, she forms a choir that combines traditional Samoan music with Western choral singing. As they rehearse and perform together, teacher and students discover their own voices and forge a community. The film celebrates the power of songs to unite people, bridge divides, and offer hope. Set against Samoa's rich cultural backdrop, the drama features stirring music and outstanding choral performances.
