The House of Bernarda Alba
Gesher Theatre
By Federico García Lorca
Translation: Rivka Meshulach | Director: Ido Kolton | Music: Noy Klayman | Cast: Efrat Ben-Tzur, Ofir Zweigenbom, Karin Serrouya, Tali Osadchi, Nicole Podvalni, Dar Rosenbaum, Lilian Shelly Ruth, Michal Weinberg / Irit Benedek, and Noa Carmi.
Following her husband's death, Bernarda imposes eight years of mourning, confining her five daughters to their home. In the name of morality, honor, and family unity, she turns their home into a prison, where oppression masquerades as protection. But not all her daughters are prepared to submit. Federico García Lorca, whose liberal views and homosexuality made him a target of persecution, wrote the play in 1936. Two months later, he was murdered, and his remains were never found. First performed in 1945, the play has become a classic of world theatre.

Kolton masterfully captures the women’s emotional turmoil, brought vividly to life by the actresses’ powerful, deeply moving performances."
