A New Comedy About Losing One's Identity
By: Daniel Lapin | Director: Tamar Keenan | Music: Daphna Keenan
Cast: Avi Kushnir, Efrat Arnon, Rada Kantarovich, Tom Siedner, Lana Sabra, and Yaeli Rozenblit
After the peaceful death of his elderly mother, Or Ausländer, a literature teacher, discovers almost by chance that she was not Jewish. What initially seems like a bureaucratic error soon becomes a revelation that threatens to upend his life and family. Was his mother hiding a dark secret, or was it simply a mistake? Or embarks on a madcap journey that takes him from a clerk at the rabbinate to a séance with his mother's spirit, forcing him to question everything he thought he knew about himself. A hilarious new comedy by Daniel Lapin ("Four Mothers," "Between Holy and Holon," "Zehu Ze") about an unexpected identity crisis in the life of a man who has never once questioned who he is.

- Reviews:"'Light Unto the Nations' is not just a comedy. It is a comedy with teeth. It is funny, yes, and at times even wild, but beneath the laughter lies a complex statement about Israeli society: its bureaucracy, its divides on religion, and the fear of losing one's sense of belonging." (rebeccablog)"Avi Kushnir is the central force on stage. His talent and expressiveness captivate the audience throughout the plot. He successfully combines comedy and emotion, bringing warmth and empathy to the character he portrays." (News1)
