BAALOT
COMPAS – The Israeli Flamenco Band
The Israeli Flamenco Repertoire Group, established and directed by dancer and choreographer Michal Nathan, celebrates its 27th anniversary with a spectacular new show. The performance showcases the art of flamenco in all its diversity, not only as a dance form rich in tradition but also as a relevant and contemporary art, ready to be infused with the new and to serve as material in the hands of creators who steer flamenco into new realms of imagination. The performance brings to the stage the Canaanite spirit embodied in the stories of local goddesses who played significant roles in the Middle Eastern pantheon. It connects the ancient history of the Land of Israel with the flamenco culture, which many aficionados regard as a kind of religion. The performance was inspired by the project "Kol Tavnit – Prayers to the Gods", a collection of Canaanite-inspired songs written by artist Assi Meshullam and composed by Talia Yona Kliger for the exhibition "DIGGING DOWN: Art of the Pre-Future," presented at the Bible Lands Museum in Jerusalem and curated by Shira Friedman.
