Sicily: Wife or Rebel

'City, Art, World' series

A series of morning lectures dedicated to Europe's magical cities
Editor and lecturer: Yoel Sitruk, photographer and investigative journalist

Writers, lovers, and critics have long portrayed Sicily in feminine terms—as a wife, a lover, or a rebel. Goethe, who visited the island in 1787, wrote: "To see Italy without seeing Sicily is not to see Italy at all, for Sicily is the key to everything".

Our journey will lead us through an island steeped in history and stories, where landscapes shift from sun-drenched beaches to timeless villages. We’ll explore the towns where the Sicilian mafia first took root, wander along endless shores, and step into villages seemingly untouched by time. And yes—along the way, we’ll visit the iconic filming locations of "The Godfather" and "Cinema Paradiso."
