Three gods descend from heaven searching for something truly rare: a good person. In the city of Szechwan, they find Shen Teh, a poor prostitute with a heart of gold, and she agrees to take them to her humble home. As a token of gratitude, they give her some money to help her start a new life. But as it turns out, when kindness encounters harsh realities, having a generous heart can come at a heavy price. To survive, Shen Teh invents an alter ego: a tough male cousin named Shui Ta, who does things she wouldn't dare. As she falls in love with a melancholic pilot, the rift between her two selves deepens. Can one stay good in this world? And if so, at what cost?
A gripping adaptation of Bertolt Brecht’s masterpiece, written about a land "far, far away," where things happened "once upon a time," yet strikingly relevant to our "here and now".
