Jay, a French taxi driver in Tokyo, spends his days and nights navigating the city's endless streets—but not only to make a living. For nine years, ever since separating from his Japanese wife, he has been searching for his daughter, Lily, whom he lost custody of and has never stopped yearning for. The ache of loneliness shadows him on every ride, until he finally decides to give up the chase and return to France. But just before his departure, fate takes an unexpected turn: a young woman hails his cab… Lily. Jay's world tilts when he realizes the passenger in front of him is his daughter—yet she has no idea who he is. Torn between the urge to reveal the truth and the desire to savor their fleeting encounter, Jay embarks on a bittersweet journey of memory, love, and forgiveness.
Preceding the film is a lecture by Dr. Galia Dor, an expert in Japanese and Chinese philosophy, aesthetics, and material culture: An Emotional Nightmare in Tokyo: A Different Look at Japanese Culture.
