Four women sharing a room in a hospital's internal medicine ward try to fall asleep, but are disturbed by nightly disruptions caused by a fifth patient, Nechama Cohen. When the option of moving Nechama to another room falls through, one of the women proposes a theoretical solution to the problem. What follows is a heated, soul-searching moral debate. Eventually, the four drift off to sleep—only to wake up to unexpected news.
