KAZABLAN

Habima Theatre, in cooperation with the Israeli Hours Theatre

The most successful Hebrew musical of all time

By: Yigal Mossinson and Joel Silberg
Director: Eldar Gohar Groisman
Songs' Lyrics: Dan Almagor, Haim Hefer, Amos Ettinger
Music: Dov (Dubi) Seltzer

The musical revolves around the residents of a dilapidated housing project in Jaffa; at its center is a gang leader of Moroccan origin who goes by Kazablan (or "Kaza" for short). Kaza falls in love with the daughter of the housing project's owner, a Polish immigrant who strongly opposes the relationship due to Kazablan's "uncultured" image. The play explores issues that touch on the soul of Israeli society: Ashkenazi-Mizrachi relations, interethnic marriage, acceptance or rejection of The different Other, sociocultural disparities, social protest, etc.

  • Reviews:
"The Israeli musical is gaining relevance by the year. The well-remembered songs take on new, updated meanings, and the cast is great. The period story of an immigrant neighborhood in Jaffa feels like the contemporary story of Israel 2023" (Kipa)
