Shem Tov Levi: Song of Songs
23rd International Oud Festival in Jerusalem, 2022
A single text runs as a thread connecting generations of those singing about love in Hebrew--the Song of Songs. The highly acclaimed songwriter Shem Tov Levi has composed original music to the Song of Songs and presents his new work in the Oud Festival’s closing performance. The work contains foundational elements drawn from a variety of musical worlds and presents the first Hebrew song of love between man and woman and Israel and its God. Levi continues the tradition of the Oud Festival and breathes new musical life into the ancient biblical text, written, according to tradition, by King Solomon. With Levi in this performance are Micha Shitrit and Maayan Linik, the Shem Tov Levy Ensemble and the Kol Dodi Ensemble of the Rimon School of Music, directed by Avner Kaner.
