Gustav Klimt: Clothing the Woman in Gold
Fashion and Art Series
Editor and Lecturer: Yaara Keydar - Curator, fashion historian and a doctoral student in the Cultural Studies Ph.D. program at The Hebrew University
In the breathtaking portraits left behind by Gustav Klimt, one of history's most revolutionary artists, women, their magical power, nudity, and sensuality are reflected, as well as innovations and changes in fashion. Klimt was active in the turbulent Fin de siècle, the seam between Art Nouveau, Expressionism, Symbolism, art, and design. His tumultuous life story also points at Emilie Louise Flöge, a trailblazing fashion designer and the love of his life. Flöge preceded Coco Chanel but has almost fallen into oblivion.
