The Budapest Gypsy Symphony Orchestra Hosting Mike Burstyn

A unique program combining classical music and Jewish and gypsy tunes

The Budapest Gypsy Symphony Orchestra, also known as "One Hundred Violins," is the world's largest Roma orchestra. The one-of-a-kind program features gems of classical music alongside well-known pieces of Jewish and Gypsy folklore, mainly composed by virtuoso violinists, clad in orchestral arrangements, and accompanied by unique musical instruments.

Jews and Gypsies have much in common: hundreds of years of wandering with no homeland sharpened the ability of both civilizations to preserve their uniqueness, language, and culture among the surrounding peoples. In addition, humor, optimism, and Joi de Vivre characterize both peoples, as well as a profound passion for music, dance, and singing. Mike Burstyn's participation in the program will underscore these similarities.

Music critics have nicknamed the Gypsy Orchestra "A Hundred Paganinis." The European media wrote: "Liszt and Paganini would rejoice... No symphonic orchestra in the world plays with such virtuosity and produces such a juicy, energetic sound. "
