God of Vengeance

Cameri Theatre

Desire, sins, forbidden love and dark passions in a modern adaptation of the play by one of the outstanding Jewish playwrights of the 20th century, Sholem Ash, twice nominated for the Nobel Prize for literature.
Yankel Shepshovich attempts the impossible: managing a whorehouse on the ground floor while raising his only beloved daughter to integrity. He hopes to wed her to a talmudic scholar and thus save himself and his family from the stain that marks them, and to receive the acknowledgement of the community's elite. While attempting to preserve his daughter's purity, he remains unaware of a mysterious bond that develops between her and one of the "working girls," a friendship that develops into a love story threatening his plan.
