David Grushko: Artistic Basketry

Basketweaver David Grushko (b. 1967, Paris; lives and works in Ofrah) studied basketweaving with Herzl Oster from Kibbutz Beit Nir and is involved in the field for the past ten years. In the exhibition are featured works from 2020-2023.

Basketweaving is an ancient craft that has been revitalized with the return to Nature and the use of natural materials.

Grushko uses the techniques of basketweaving to create woven wall art and decorative baskets.

The wall artworks are woven from palm branches. In his work, Grushko combines additional materials, such as natural branches of various trees and dyed twigs. The decorative baskets have an abstract shape while connecting twisted vine branches and the leaflet at the base of a palm frond. This combination gives a wild and raw look, and leads to a flowing asymmetrical shape, where each basket is unique.
