The Israel Quilters Association: Together
The Israel Quilters Association's annual exhibition
Quilting, a form of the textile arts, is also considered to be one of the forms of plastic arts, alongside painting and sculpture. A quilt consists of three layers of textile: upper fabric, filling, and the backing, which are quilted together. The Israeli Quilters Association was established in 1992 and since then has played a central role in promoting patchwork and quilting in Israel. There are about 200 members in the association. Some members create quilts as a hobby and others are artists who have turned the magical world of textile design into a full-time profession. Members participate in conferences in Israel and abroad, exhibit in international fairs and museum exhibitions. The members meet in groups to share information and ideas.
Community projects are often done for various purposes. This year, the members
prepared, among other things, laundry bags for soldiers, activity blankets for Alzheimer's patients, and blankets for families evacuated from their homes.
Every year we have an exhibition with a selected theme. This year – the theme "Together" was chosen following the social turmoil that took place this last year. None of us imagined where this "togetherness" would lead. Each of the members used the best of their talent, both in idea and execution – only the sky was the limit.
