Paris: The Falling Leaves
'City, Art, World' series
A series of morning lectures dedicated to Europe's magical cities
Editor and lecturer: Yoel Sitruk, photographer and investigative journalist
A journey to Paris, where soulful people and storied streets beckon us to wander through space and time. We'll meander down alleys once graced by Yves Montand and Édith Piaf, the towering "grands projets" that reshaped the city's spine between 1945 and 2020, and the Les Halles wholesale market, a subterranean artery pulsing with the rhythm of commuters. We'll visit La Défense, home to the Grande Arche, erected to commemorate the bicentennial of the French Revolution, and the Louvre, a palace of ongoing wonders—now the crown jewel of the world's museums. We will meet street artists in the lively "Marais" (Marsh) District, which has undergone many ups and downs. Against the backdrop of Chopin's works, we'll glance at poems by one of France's greatest poets, Jacques Prévert. From the top of Montmartre, the hill overlooking Paris from the north, we'll descend into the sewers of Paris and conclude at "Père Lachaise" - the Paris cemetery where fascinating people and stories are buried. The show is accompanied by the songs of Yves Montand, Édith Piaf, and more.
