Le nozze di Figaro – Mozart's well-known and beloved opera is a unique gem in the opera buffa genre. Stage Director Rosemarie Danziger brings a breath of fresh air into this monumental, humoristic masterpiece. Mozart’s musical genius and Da Ponte’s sharp pen give the singers the opportunity to show acting virtuosity of subtleties and depth.

Mozart and his librettist Da Ponte based their opera on Beaumarchais’s play "The Mad Day, or The Marriage of Figaro”. The play and the opera present a sharp criticism of the exploitation of a subordinate by someone in authority. These monumental works deal with the difficulty of the noble landlord, the Count Almaviva to abolish the age old ‘Droit du seigneur’ (‘The right of the lord', allowing feudal lords to spend the night with a female subject on her wedding night). The servants Figaro and Susanna, the bridegroom and the bride, fight Count Almaviva’s intention to revive this law. Aided by the Count’s wife, they succeed after outsmarting their lord.

The elegant costumes and the sophisticated sets are sure to bring the audience into Mozart's light and entertaining atmosphere, while the message of social justice is clear and resounding.
