Hefetz

Habima Theatre

An Israeli classic by Hanoch Levin

Director: Miri Lazar
Cast: Zvika Hadar, Osnat Fishman, Hagar Tishman, Nadir Eldad / Avishai Meridor, Ben Yosipovich, Daniel Sabag, Uri Hochman / Assaf Pariente, and Oshrat Ingedashet / Ricky Blich

In a world where people are measured by who they trample on, where one person's sense of worth stems from the inferiority of others - Hefetz is at the bottom of the "food chain."

When Fogra gets married, and no one bothers to tell Hefetz, a chain of events is set off, determining who will be happy and who will be miserable. It is a series of power games between those who humiliate and those who are humiliated, ultimately leading to the inevitable, ghastly portrait of human existence in all its wretchedness.

  • Reviews:
"Habima's new stage adaptation of Hanoch Levin's play shows the power of the renowned playwright to formulate sharp and accurate statements on the unflattering facets of human society. Thanks to an excellent casting, a directorial work full of talent, and brilliant music,
the text radiates even decades after it was written.
    "

"'Hefetz' by Hanoch Levin, about the detrimental power of extreme narcissism, is a theatrical text that challenged society's most holy tenets more than five decades ago. Habima's impressive interpretation and the ingenious casting of Ben Yosifovich as Hefetz accentuate the play's relevance to our times." (Haaretz)
