Stempenyu is a gifted musician. People from all over Poland and Russia come to hear him and his klezmer band at weddings and festive events. But Stempenyu is not only an enchanting musician; he's also an avid heartbreaker leading young girls astray.
One day, the story gets complicated when Stempenyu falls in love with the beautiful - and married - Rachel. The klezmer's wife doesn't intend to give him up, nor does beautiful Ruchale agree to give in. She wants him all for herself and forever.
Edna Mazia has woven a beautiful, touching play with many colorful characters who strive to resplend through Stempenyu and his music. Her free adaptation of the classic novel by Sholem Aleichem, one of Yiddish Literature's giants, makes the play modern and enthralling.
