At long last, Rochale, the beloved daughter, finds a groom of her liking. But, alas, her father, Shloima, a widowed Holocaust survivor, builds up a dire aversion to the young man from their very first encounter. He's resolute to call off the wedding. In the background, two relationships are evident: the complex one between Rochale and her younger sister, Leah - divorced with a child - and the wonderful friendship between Shloima and his friend Stashek, who share a secret from the war and a passionate love for the same woman.
