Anna Karenina has a respected husband, a charming child, and an impeccable social status, but one day, she meets Alexei Vronsky, a handsome officer. Her infatuation undermines her family life and places her soul in turmoil. What should she opt for? Loyalty or betrayal, a dull routine or a heart-stopping adventure? And the outcome – isn't it ominously self-evident?
Tolstoy's masterpiece was published in 1877 and instantly became an all-time classic. Celebrated Rimas Tuminas has been the artistic director of the Vakhtangov Theatre since 2007. Under his direction, the Moscow theatre gained great esteem, but in 2022, following Tuminas' statements against Russia's invasion of Ukraine, he was dismissed and forced to leave the country.
