Cassandra's Field of Flowers
Tomo Sone - Japan
The 2020 pandemic reminded us of how vital the connection between people is, and led the performing arts to expand their value and possibilities beyond the theater. It is important that the performers on stage will not only become central figures but also feel the world, move forward, and bring about change with the audience. “Cassandra's Field of Flowers” attempts to fuse contemporary dance with digital technology and AR (Artificial Reality), inspired by traditional Japanese Noh theater, where the audience develops its own story by using AR. It is a work that makes us think about reality, unreality, the unknown, and the invisible world that extends outside the theater, while considering the situation in which human beings are placed.
Tomo Sone is an independent choreographer and performer whose work pursues human relationships, presence, and inner struggles. She is currently working on bringing digital technology to the technology of the body. Her works are presented among others at the Suzanne Dellal Center (Israel), the Gdansk Dance Festival (Poland), and the Festival Internacional de Danza Contemporánea de la Ciudad de México (Mexico). Founder of the 'Japan-Israel International Dance Project'.
Hanging Roots
Danny Tavori - Israel
"Hanging Roots" is a contemporary circus and dance performance that explores the disassociation of the human body from nature. Over the course of a decade, Tavori adapted his body to being suspended above the ground, and his encounter with the suspended orange tree of Jaffa [by Ran Morin] led him to change his approach to his own practice. Tavori's creation offers an alternative perspective to traditional Chinese acrobatics, driven by his research on organic forms within challenging environments. His embodiment of the cotton and nylon straps suggests the natural choreography of suspension by hands or hair. Inspired by Butoh, Tavori weaves the delicate story his isolated body can tell. His effort and sensations of resemblance to the tree, with roots off the ground and insistence on growth despite rigid conditions, culminated in the completion of "Hanging Roots."
