Fugue in Crimson
The Batsheva Ensemble
By Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber
Performed by Yonatan Daskal and The Batsheva Ensemble
Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber, former Batsheva dancers and now independent artists in New York City, return to Batsheva with an original dance for their Alma Mater ensemble.
In Fugue In Crimson, they collaborate with the Batsheva Ensemble dancers and the musician and creator Yonatan Daskal, whose original music for the work is performed live on stage. The piece combines dance and theatre, dealing with the rhythmic and spatial connections between music and movement.
In the airy space created by the artists, they reflect on intermediate states and transition spaces - the visible vs. the hidden, front-stage vs. back-stage, whatever takes place on the surface vs. whatever pulsates in their depths.
