Based on tunes from Yitzhak Levy's Anthology of Judeo-Spanish Liturgy and the Book of Judeo-Spanish Songs, the musical brings to stage reminiscences from a typical mid-twentieth-century Sephardic neighborhood in Jerusalem. One family is highlighted - the Castel family. Sephardic songs are sung between short spoken scenes - of love and pain, joy and sorrow. Generations sanctioned these "Romances," and members of the Sephardic community sing them to this day with emotion and nostalgia.
