"Ultimately, it all boils down to one simple choice: either you start living or you start dying."
Andy is a young banker accused of the double murder of his wife and her lover. He was sentenced to two life sentences and sent to Shawshank prison, where he meets Red, an old and well-connected prisoner who becomes his friend. Andy claims he is innocent and imprisoned for no wrongdoing, but isn't that the claim of all the prisoners? Behind bars, cruelty is limitless, and yet Andy manages to hold on and survive through his intelligence, wit, and quiet and unique character. Finally, he is forced to look at life anew and gives the prisoners in prison meaning, and to his friend Red - hope for the future beyond prison walls.
